How to Clone a System Partition
It can be useful to clone a Windows system partition to another hard disk. For example, to clone a Windows system partition to an external hard disk for making a backup. With Lazesoft Disk Image & Clone, cloning a system partition is easy.
The following are the steps:
- Download the Lazesoft Disk Image & Clone setup file and install it.
- Run Lazesoft Disk Image & Clone to build a bootable CD or USB disk.
- Reboot your machine from the CD or USB disk.
- The home page of Lazesoft Disk Image & Clone will be shown automatically. Click the <Clone Partition> button on the home page.
- 'Clone Partition Wizard' will launch automatically. On the selecting source partition page, select the system partition, which is normally C:, on the system disk.
- Select a free space or an existing partition on the target disk, for example, a USB external disk.
- Select the copy option. There are 3 copy methods available:
"Copy without resizing partitions" – Target partition will be identical to the source partition.
"Copy Partition with Minimum size" – Target partition will be reduced to a minimum size.
"Copy Partition with Maximum size" – The target partition will fit all of the target partition space.
(The target partition will be reduced or enlarged to fit all of the target partition space with the option "Copy Partition with Maximum size".)
For example, if the source partition size is 100G, the used size of the source partition is 30G and the target partition space is 80G, then…
* the option "Copy without resizing partitions" is not acceptable.
*The target partition size will be 30G with the option 'Copy Partition with Minimum size'.
*The target partition size will be 80G with the option 'Copy Partition with Maximum size'.
If the source partition size is 20G, the used size of the source partition is 10G and the target partition space is 80G, then…
* The target partition size will be 20G with the option 'Copy without resizing partitions'.
* The target partition size will be 10G with the option 'Copy Partition with Minimum size'.
* The target partition size will be 80G with the option 'Copy Partition with Maximum size'.
You can also select target partition type, "Primary" or "Logic".
(If the source partition is a system or boot partition, the partition type should be set as 'Primary'.
If there are 3 primary partitions already on target disk, the new cloned partition should be set as 'Logical'.)
- Click the <Start> button to begin cloning.
- Wait until the cloning is completed, then remove the CD or USB disk from the drive and reboot.
