Seagate External Hard Drive Free Data Recovery

Seagate external hard drives are commonly used for backups, photos, documents, videos, and work files. If a Seagate USB drive suddenly disappears from Windows, asks to be formatted, shows as RAW, or is visible only in Disk Management, the files may still be recoverable.

Before trying recovery, stop using the drive. Do not format it, initialize it, run repair tools that write to the disk, or copy new files onto it. Any write operation can overwrite lost data and reduce the chance of a successful recovery.

Common Seagate External Drive Data Loss Problems

  • Files were accidentally deleted from the Seagate external drive.
  • The drive was formatted or reformatted without a current backup.
  • Windows reports that the disk is not formatted or asks whether you want to format it now.
  • The drive appears as RAW, inaccessible, or without a normal drive letter.
  • A partition was deleted, lost, or damaged.
  • The drive was unplugged, powered off, or disconnected before files finished saving.
  • File system damage or virus activity prevents access to files.

How to Recover Files from a Seagate External Hard Drive

  1. Connect the Seagate external hard drive to a working Windows computer.
  2. Download and install Lazesoft Data Recovery. Install it on your computer's internal drive or another healthy disk, not on the Seagate drive you need to recover.
  3. Start the software and use File Recovery first if the Seagate drive has a drive letter and can still be scanned.
  4. Use Partition Recovery if the drive is formatted, RAW, missing a partition, or does not show the files you need in File Recovery.
  5. Preview found files when available and select the files or folders you want to restore.
  6. Click Recover and save the recovered files to another disk. Do not save recovered files back to the same Seagate external hard drive.

If Windows Does Not Recognize the Seagate Drive

If the drive does not appear in File Explorer, open Disk Management and check whether the physical disk is listed. If it is listed, avoid formatting or initializing it and scan it with recovery software. If the disk is not listed at all, try another USB port, another USB cable, and another computer.

If the Seagate drive still cannot be detected, it may have a hardware problem. In that case, software recovery may not be able to access the disk, and a professional data recovery service may be needed.
